032: The Future of Pixar: What Lies Ahead? (From 2006)

On Jan 24, 2006, Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion. Six months later, I recorded my first ever podcast episode.

When I created this audio presentation, it was long before I ever thought that I would start an actual podcast. And now, five years to the date of that historic merger, I am releasing this old recording to you listeners.I'm hoping you will find it as enjoyable as I did to be able to look back with me--to the time when wounds were fresh between Pixar and Disney, and at the start of the era of Pixar history we are currently living in.

As you listen to me talk as a voice from the past, consider how you felt about the Disney-Pixar merger back when it happened. Have your feelings changed? Let me know either way--especially by calling in to leave your opinion in a message. You can also email me! The info is down below.

And in the spirit of looking back, a couple of links for you:

From my personal blog (which is due for an update soon), a story I wrote back in 2006 (on the day of the merger itself). It's a satiric look at Disney and Pixar as a struggling couple who finally decide to work out their differences for the sake of the children: http://thetruthaboutderrick.blogspot.com/2006/01/excerpt-to-infinity-and-back-again.html

From CNN, an article covering the merger (and a poll that you can still take about whether or not you thought it was a wise move on Disney's part!): http://money.cnn.com/2006/01/24/news/companies/disney_pixar_deal/
